State of the Studios Address Week of May 7th 2018 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Guests arriving to the current vehicle parking areas from World Drive will quickly notice a large paved area now visible on the right hand awaiting final completion of striping and lighting. As photos indicate below, crews are completing  the final removal of chain link construction fencing and poles while heavy equipment rumbles in the near distance to prepare the future main visitor entrance roadway.  All this in preparation for the anticipated crowds that will be eager to experience the Toy Story Land debut in June, followed in 2019 by the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction. Among the Disney Junior apparel and accessories inside this Animation Courtyard shop, guests of all ages will delight in novel Disney key chains featuring popular Disney treats. Shoppers can select from a small replica Mickey pretzel, Rice Krispie treat, or the ever popular Mickey Mouse ice cream bar.  Definitely eye catching key chains. Also now being merchandised are candy apple plush that are partially adorned with distinctive Mickey Mouse pants. All worth a stop on the way to visit Kylo Ren at Star Wars Launch Bay. Guests celebrating the annual May 4th Star Wars Day last Monday in the Park were treated to limited edition commemorative Disney Star Wars merchandise at various retail locations. Fans could purchase a collector’s royal blue t-shirt inscribed with  May the 4th be with you 2018 on the front and an eye catching image of  the memorable  Millennium Falcon on the back. For a complete celebration look, a matching pin and hat with the same May The 4th logo were also available for sale. Accordingly, fans were able to add a special detailed   Darth Vader to their action figure collection in honor of The Return of the Jedi motion picture released 35 years ago. This special merchandise may have been one day only, as none of the items remained available as of the date of this address.

A colorful Star Wars Solo themed women’s top and coordinating skirt featured inside Legends of Hollywood is perfect for Mother’s Day gift giving. As pictured below, the top carries a Captain of the Millennium Falcon inscription while the coordinating skirt has a unique multi Star Wars character pattern. Additional Solo themed merchandise includes a new coffee mug, joined by a women’s back pack, and matching wallet.

Star Wars shoppers will clamor to Tatooine Traders for the new colorful merchandise selection including adult and child themed hats and tee shirts. Galactic sling bags, purses, along with pajama pants await Star Wars attraction riders as they descend the exit ramp directly into the shop. Black and red flip flops as well as jackets are available in child sizes  and are great to outfit those young fans attending the upcoming May 27 Star Wars: Galactic Nights event. In the Muppet Vision 3 D indoor que, guests will now discover they can more readily enjoy and photograph the various attraction’s detailed props while awaiting entrance to the auditorium, all thanks to Disney’s decision to relocate a retaining rope that previously restricted their access.

Visitors can now select a Miss Piggy ears head piece to be in the spirit of Muppet Vision 3D. The Stage One store near the show’s exit now stocks these over the top ears complete with the characteristic pink bow, pearl string, and red gemstone. Click the link below for full coverage.

Guests venturing close to the water fountain directly outside the Muppet Vision 3 D attraction entrance will notice at different times of the day Miss Piggy exerting a greater projection of water beyond the fountain edge as she welcomes visitors. Some cast members have attributed this varying pressure increase to the neighboring Star Wars: Galaxy Edge construction efforts. Click the link below for full coverage.

Guests will now find that stroller overflow parking needs have necessitated the relocation of outdoor bench seating formerly available on the left side of the Muppet Vision 3 D building. These multiple wood benches have been moved to the front of the side exit of PizzeRizzos near the Miss Piggy fountain. Guests will notice on their walk to Pixar Place that one of the two giant billboards behind the Chinese Theatre now promotes the Lady and the Tramp Blu-Ray /DVD release that occurred back in February of this year. The Last Jedi motion picture billboard has given way to the giant images of these two beloved characters from this favorite Disney Classic. Click the link below for full coverage.

Crews have been busy this week to further erect the gondola station arrival and departure structure. New this week additional metal framing pictured below  has appeared as part of this transportation system. This week’s photos below capture workers’ efforts to finish back wall enclosures on two main buildings, while numerous unfinished structure and landscape peak shells await further refinement.
