State Of The Studios Address Week of May 14th 2018 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

New parking space stripping as well as night lighting are rapidly appearing in the expanded Hollywood Studios guest parking adjacent to cast parking, normally the Minnie Mouse Television areas. Crews are also working to complete the new Park entrance roadway, as pictured below. Workers were spotted checking asphalt surface levels and completing perimeter guard railing. Work on the Swan and Dolphin Resort bridge beginning this week has temporarily suspended Friendship boat guest transportation service from the EPCOT Resort properties to the Park entrance. Guests lodging at The Boardwalk, The Swan, The Dolphin as well as The Beach and Yacht Club resort are offered Disney bus transportation during this nautical shut down. Keep an eye on Hollywood Studios HQ for further updates regarding resumption of the boat service.

Arriving Park guests may have spotted the newly installed giant Disney Skyliner cable wheel that will help guide gondola transportation vehicles arriving and departing from the Hollywood Studios station. This giant bright red horizontal mechanism just put into place under a tower was being tested by workers during the day. With tower erection now completed on Park property for the Caribbean Beach Resort route, construction focus appears to now be centered on completion of the Hollywood Studios station. The trees adorning center stage to the right of the famed Chinese Theatre that have remained leafless due to the winter months   are now in full foliage. As a sure sign to many Park goers that warmer weather has arrived in Central Florida, the new green leaf canopies provide appreciated beauty and shade to guests passing by. Outdoor menu displays to lure diners inside to ABC Commissary cuisine have been modified by removal of entree photos with simply menu choice selection descriptions remaining.

Families with young padawans participating in Jedi Training Trials of the Temple can purchase their celebration photo package at the Indiana Jones Adventure Outpost to save time. This $34.95 photo print package can now be conveniently purchased in the same location where children go to sign up for Jedi training at the beginning of the day. Guests started rejoicing this week as FastPass reservations for Toy Story Midway Mania came available for May 20 and beyond. Also Woody will have all three tracks ready and running for his guests beginning May 20… just in time for summer crowds.

Guests may have noticed Disney switching the outdoor background music throughout the Park, including the main guest entrance. Audio buffs will now hear the original Sorcerer Hat center stage music tracks as they shop in The Darkroom merchandise area. Former main gate sounds of Superman and Chariots of Fire entertain diners in the abc commissary. On the other hand, guests entering the Backlot Express for a meal will be entertained by the new Grand Avenue area theme music.

Mickeys of Hollywood merchandisers have been at work this week enhancing their store display window offerings facing both Hollywood Blvd and Vine Street foot traffic.  Solo: A Star Wars Story merchandise now dominates the Hollywood Blvd display windows to further promote this new motion picture due in theaters later this month. Meanwhile, shoppers are also drawn to the window displays on Vine Street currently promoting upcoming patriotic holiday merchandise offerings. The red, white, and blue themed apparel and accessories have been observed steadily increasing on shelves in both this store  and the Celebrity Five and Dime. While shopping in Mickeys of Hollywood, guests can now purchase a decorative wooden wall plaque of Mickey Mouse in red, white, and blue to add to their home patriotic decor. Also brand new to delight fans are four new themed Star Wars mugs, offering the shopper a choice of either promoting the Rebel Alliance on their kitchen table or opting for two opposing mug choices on the Dark side with a design that definitely favors the Galactic Empire. Relocated from prior displays in Mickeys of Hollywood, a variety of 2018 themed apparel, accessories, toys, and holiday decorations now await summer guest crowds. Children and adult clothing, beach towels, toy trucks, and select plush are all located in the Carthay Circle middle merchandise area. Shoppers looking to add to their Christmas decor will find a choice of tree ornaments. Holiday ornament featuring either Mickey and Pluto or Chip and Dale can be purchased. Colorful Disney character socks and polos recently exchanged display locations with fancy Adventurers mugs inside the store for a new merchandising look. Shoppers can now locate their choice mug on a wall display and still stop by to select socks in the middle of the store. Construction crews have turned the final corner to now enclose the remaining side of one of Planet Batuu’s main structures as captured in photos below. Likewise, scaffolding encompasses numerous towers and spires to allow workers to continue the finishing work on these high rise structures.  Contractors continue to utilize charter bus shuttles to efficiently ferry crews to and from the compact construction vehicle entrances.
